While driving is a routine task we often take for granted, it’s important to approach trips with caution and safety at the forefront, whether we’re driving for the job or for ourselves. If you’re operating a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) and/or towing a trailer for P&J, you must take the time to conduct a proper pre-trip inspection of both before setting out.
If the truck and/or trailer do not pass the inspection, the equipment must be tagged out of service, and your supervisor must be notified. Supervision is then required to notify mechanical services to complete the repairs. This is the same process for the required daily post-trip inspection. In addition, all deficiencies are required to be documented on the electronic daily vehicle inspection report (DVIR), if applicable, or a hard copy inspection book. Violations of these expectations will result in disciplinary action.
We’ve produced a detailed video tutorial to refresh your memory on how to properly perform a pre-trip inspection. If you haven’t yet, set aside some time to watch it!
