Supplier Diversity Program

In 2019, P&J became a Woman-Owned Business (WBE) as certified by the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC) – the largest third-party certifier of businesses owned, controlled, and operated by women in the United States.

Since our inception in 1952 by founders Ted Phillips and Ted Jordan, Ted’s wife, Avis Phillips, has continuously operated as a part of the P&J company over its more than 70-year operating history. Before Ted’s passing, she became Chairman of P&J, giving her ultimate authority over its management and control of all its common stock, officially making the company a woman-owned enterprise in 2016.

We share a commitment to diversity and inclusiveness that guides the way we work and do business. As Integrity is one of our core values, we believe in creating an inclusive and diverse environment, both in our offices and on our projects, by learning from the best, building the skills to succeed, and rewarding results. This commitment to diversity is proven by our strong work ethic, exceptional work quality, extensive resources, and priority on safety – always.

We’re proud of our certified WBE distinction as part of our commitment to diversity.

Our supplier diversity policy is to attain practicable spending levels with a variety of suppliers. The following categories are recognized as diverse suppliers:

  • Minority-owned
  • Woman-owned
  • Veteran-owned (including disabled veteran-owned)
  • Disability-owned
  • HUB Zone
  • LGBTQ+-owned

While not mandatory, we encourage our suppliers to get a third-party certification through a national certifying entity such as the National Minority Supplier Development Council, Women’s Business Enterprise National Council, National LGBT Chamber of Commerce, and Disability:IN. In addition, we recognize any city’s, state’s, and municipality’s certification processes and other private and government certifying agencies.
