What’s REAL ID?

What’s REAL ID?

You may have heard about REAL ID changes to your state driver’s license procedures. While the implementation of these requirements on air travel has been pushed to next year, P&J recommends you investigate your state’s compliance with these measures in the coming months to avoid potential travel issues later.

P&J is adhering to CDC travel guidelines regarding COVID-19 and currently not allowing business-related air travel on commercial airlines. All other business travel must be coordinated with your Supervisor and risk management (sthompson@phillipsih.com). A risk assessment will be conducted to determine if your travel is necessary. To stay up-to-date on our latest travel policies, visit the COVID-19 SharePoint site for more information.

The REAL ID is a travel measure strengthening the identification requirements for commercial flights within the United States, and licenses that don’t meet the REAL ID standards will no longer be accepted as identification for air travel beginning next fall. Although your old license will still be valid for driving and other identification purposes, TSA will require a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license (marked by a star in the upper-right corner) or another form of federally issued identification, such as a passport, starting October 1, 2021.

We’ll keep you posted in this quarterly newsletter as updates are made to this, and other licensing requirements, such as expiration dates affected by DMV closures.
