The Susquehanna to Roseland power line was constructed to maintain the reliability of the electric grid for millions of people in the Northeast United States. The 145 mile long power line extends from Berwick, Pennsylvania to Roseland, New Jersey with approximately 95% following the path of an existing 85-year-old power line that required replacement because it was approaching the end of its operational lifespan and was undersized for current electricity demands. The Susquehanna to Roseland project was one of seven transmission line projects that the Obama administration fast tracked due to its regional importance in the Northeast.
Phillips & Jordan was contracted to restore the 325 foot wide transmission line right-of-way (ROW) for the B13 segment of the Susquehanna to Roseland project back to pre-construction conditions after completion of line construction activities. Major items of work completed by Phillips & Jordan included de-compaction and stabilization of the ROW; re-vegetation of disturbed areas where necessary; restoration of access roads, structure pads, and wire pull sites; removal of erosion control measures, timber matting, and temporary bridges; and heavy civil services to replace soil moved during line construction activities. Phillips & Jordan was also responsible for management and closeout of the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit for the project. Phillips & Jordan completed 95% of the project work during the first growing season which was 40% ahead of the established project schedule, and installed and maintained sod at various sites to ensure land owner satisfaction.
